Coverage regions which are computed using a small number of stations with poor azimuthal distribution may be reduced significantly in area by placing constraints upon the calculated epicentral distance to one or more of the stations. These distance constraints are derived using a model of the upper mantle velocity structure from which the arrival times of later phases can be accurately predicted.
