The equation used to compute the values of σ3 in Table 2 in Spudich et al. (1999) was in error by a factor of 2. The result is that all values of σ3 are too large by a factor of √2. When added to the variance for the prediction of the geometric mean of ground motion, σ32 is the correction needed to give the variance corresponding to the randomly oriented component of ground motion.
