abstract

By using an equivalent linearization technique for multidegree systems with arbitrary nonlinearities, a random-vibration method is formulated for determining seismic amplification functions of horizontal soil deposits governed by Ramberg-Osgood constitutive laws. Application to instrumentally observed cases of amplification and comparison with results by other methods of analysis are illustrated and discussed.
