For the period from 1960 to January 1971, the seismicity of Katanga and Western Zambia was investigated. Three clearly separated zones of seismic activity were detected: the zone of the Upemba Graben which follows the Kibarian belt, the zone of the Moero Graben with a continuation of epicenters in a southwest extension of its direction of strike and, finally, the zone of Western Zambia with a remarkable accumulation of earthquakes at 13.7°S and 26°E.

The annual frequency N of earthquakes for a magnitude interval of δM = 0.5 resulted in log N = 3.20 − 0.72M, provided the formula by Richter (1958) log N = abM is considered correct.
