This paper describes a method for determining the size of the magnet required for coil-magnet transducers directly from the seismic mass, period, and damping. It is shown that the coil wire size and resistance do not influence the size of the magnet. To achieve the desired generator constant, it is immaterial whether the transducer is designed with a large flux density and short wire length, or with a small flux density and long wire length. It is also shown that the transducer is more efficient when the entire coil is immersed in the magnetic field rather than having the coil extend beyond the pole pieces.
