Amplitude-distance curves of seismic body waves in the distance range between 5° and 25° derived for the region of Southeastern Europe and the northern part of Asia Minor are presented. The shape of the amplitude curves indicates the complex character of wave groups denoted as P and S. It appears that these wave groups are composed of many wave types which arrive in comparable travel times and produce a complicated interference pattern of the P- and S-wave groups. At different epicentral distances different wave types predominate, thus forming the maximum of the wave group in question.
