P travel times and station time terms found by Cleary and Hales (1966a), gave scattered results when applied to times to Australian stations from nuclear explosions at Bikini and Eniwetok. The Australian station terms were amended using data from LONGSHOT, and this helped to eliminate most of the earlier discrepancies. However, the times to two stations at distances of about 35° and 40° from the Marshall Islands explosions are about 0.4 sec earlier than those predicted by Cleary and Hales. Two Bikini explosions gave significantly earlier times than the other events, an effect largely explicable in terms of the known structure beneath the atoll.
The Australian station terms show regional features similar to those observed elswhere, notably negative terms in shield areas and positive terms in areas of recent tectonic uplift.
