Summary

From the observations of the Helena, Montana, swarm earthquakes it is deduced that a maximum of earthquakes of the swarm type occurs in the early morning hours of local time and that there exists a distribution of about 42 per cent of the shocks in the daytime, and 58 per cent in the nighttime. This is confirmed by material from earthquakes from widely different seismic periods and regions.
