The recent completion of a fundamental revision of the New Zealand National Seismic Hazard Model (New Zealand NSHM) provided the catalyst for a joint BSSA Special Issue and SRL Focus Section on seismic hazard models worldwide. The approaches to NSHMs in different locations are varied and driven by different expertise, different philosophies, different tectonic environments, and different needs of the local communities.
