An error in the derivation of the flexure formula in Anooshehpoor et al. (2013) led to incorrect estimates of the failure accelerations for the hoodoos. The error was caused by an incorrect sign for the stress field at the base of the hoodoo due to its weight (tensile instead of compressional stress) and an incorrect moment equilibrium condition.
