In 2016, central Italy was struck by a series of damaging earthquakes. The cover photo shows a scene in Amatrice following the magnitude 6.2 August 24 event. In this issue, Pretovic et al. draw on data from these earthquakes and discuss a method for rapid assessment of potential damage in the immediate aftermath of a large earthquake.
