Lava from the ongoing eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Canary Island’s La Palma Island covers and destroys everything in its path. This photo taken on 29 November 2021, shows damage in the town of La Laguna related to the opening of several new vents that have broadened the area of impact. Although not directly related to the current eruption, which began in September 2021, two papers in this issue of SRL touch on relevant topics. We draw your attention to a paper on using submarine DAS to monitor activity in the region of the Canary Islands (Ugalde et al.) and another on rapid identification of volcanic signals (Konstantinou et al.).
