The beauty of Andvord Bay, Antarctica belies its remoteness and harsh climate. The papers comprising the focus section on Arctic and Antarctic Seismology in this issue of SRL showcase recent advances in seismology achieved despite the challenges of working in similarly remote and inaccessible environments. The polar regions have often provided the keys to unlocking the secrets of seismicity and tectonics. Recently, international attention has focused on these regions in response to climate change and its effect on the cryosphere. The fifteen papers of the focus section cover a wide variety of topics including monitoring, seismicity, structure and glacial dynamics.
