The upper Argovian (Jurassic) coral- bearing oolitic formation of the Mouille forest area, France, rests on a lower Argovian madrepore-bearing reef. Reef growth was apparently halted by subsidence at the end of lower Argovian time, and fields of crinoids grew on the reef surface. Subsequently slight uplift of the sea bottom led to deposition of the oolite, with development of a few new Donacosmilia colonies.
