Three Couvinian deposits in Finistere have yielded examples of a new species of Metrionaxon, M. paucitabulatum n. sp. Both internal molds and nondecalcified specimens of this small form are described. The genus, which seems to be restricted to the middle Devonian, has been previously known only in Germany (Eifel, Bergisches Land) and in Poland (Skala Podolskaya).
