Abstract

The study of the different facies of the terminal Jurassic (Portlandian) and of their geographic distribution makes possible a rough estimate of the form of the basin of sedimentation. To the south and to the east appear shallow shelves which extend from Moustier-Sainte-Marie to Nice and to the border of the Mercantour [massif], while the region between Sisteron and Puget-Theniers must show a fairly great depth, as emphasized by the importance of submarine slides which have carried toward the center of the basin constituents coming from the shelves.
