Abstract

Identification of the foraminifera Arenagula kerfornei, characteristic of the upper Lutetian (Eocene) in the Paris basin, in the Biarritzian shelly sands, located between Tillet and Foulangues, allows the placement of the Biarritzian within the Nummulites varialarius biozone, which corresponds to the uppermost Lutetian and represents the beds just below the basal Auversian.
