Marine Carboniferous algae in the Colomb-Bechar, Chebbi, El Ahmar, Ohanet, and Polignac basins of the Sahara are present in greater numbers than had been supposed. Although they are good facies indicators, they are not suitable for regional zonation, and their stratigraphic value is very limited. Dasycladaceae of the genera Anthracoporellopsis, Koninckopora, and Macroporella, and Rhodophyceae of the genus Petschoria are numerous. The genera Anthracoporellopsis and Petschoria elsewhere are known only in the Ural region of the USSR. Koninckopora and Macroporella are known from various parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, and America.
