Abstract

Sandstones and conglomerates, both with calcareous cement, represent consolidated alluvium of the Marne and Seine rivers. The consolidated layers are considered to have resulted from the lateral circulation of CaCO <sub>3</sub> -rich phreatic waters in a periglacial climate of the Quaternary.
