Abstract

A specimen belonging to the genus Aristozoe Barrande has been collected in the Mersakhsa bed, here assigned to the lower Emsian. This is the first report of this phyllocarid in the lower Devonian of Africa. The exceptional state of preservation of the specimen has permitted observation of the first attached abdominal somites and description of the structural framework and ornamentation of the test, previously unknown in this genus.
