Discusses the sources of error in chemical analyses of rocks. Sampling errors due to nonhomogeneity of the rock cannot be calculated, but sampling errors due to large grain size, errors due to loss during crushing operations, and errors introduced in actual chemical procedure are analyzed statistically. A series of analyses of the same sample confirms the calculation.
