A brief summary of the results to date of cooperative exploration of the Lons-le-Saunier coal basin in Alsace, France, by several French government organizations. The coals are lower and middle Stephanian (Carboniferous) in age. The basin trends in an east-west direction, and is bounded by faults approximately parallel to the axial direction of surface folds or, more probably, to the Bresse subsidence fault.
