Abstract

Detailed study of the marl-sandstone series of the Seba Chioukh in western Oran, Algeria, shows that these formations are lower Miocene rather than Numidian (Eocene or Oligocene) and were deposited under shallow, brackish-water conditions. This throws new light on the Miocene paleogeography of the Tafna basin.
