Santaisaurus, a lower Triassic reptile from China, is definitely an eosuchian rather than a rhynchocephalian. It cannot be included among the Prolacertidae, but can be assigned to the Prolacertoidea (new superfamily). The discovery of Santaisaurus confirms the close relationship between the lower Triassic continental reptile faunas of China and South Africa.
