The Antibes region, a vast syncline, is the only part of the French Mediterranean coast where a complete Plio-Quaternary series was deposited. Details of the marine transgressions and regressions, as worked out from the stratigraphic column, are presented. The Plaisancian blue marls and Vaugrenier sands mark maximum Pliocene and Quaternary transgressions, respectively; maximum emersions are indicated by late Pliocene oxidation of the blue marls and by Quaternary continental deposits.
