Abstract

The discovery of a mastodon molar at Bourg-Saint-Bernard supports the conclusion that the Stampian deposits of the region were eroded during the Miocene, and therefore that the Miocene in the French Pyrenean basin was deposited unconformably (and sporadically) on the Stampian, in contrast to the normal depositional sequence of the Miocene of Gascony.
