In the anthracite formed in the contact of an intrusion of microgranite grading into microsyenite, which was emplaced between the seam and roof of a coal deposit south of Briancon, France, numerous fissures were formed which were filled with calcite or quartz, but not with microgranite.The intrusion may also be responsible for graphite inclusions in the anthracite.
