Abstract

Study of the contact between the crystalline schist of the Beaufortin massif and the overlying Triassic conglomerate in the Arly-Isere valley region, France, shows that the processes whereby the schist was metamorphosed likewise metamorphosed the conglomerate locally, and reveals that the progressive continuity of regional metamorphism was halted abruptly, thus forming a regional metamorphic "front."
