Abstract

New biostratigraphic (planktonic foraminifera) and palaeoenvironmental data have been obtained about the Santonian formation of the Vocontian Basin. They have been compared with those of two other palaeogeographic domains of the SE of France: the Rhodanian and the Provencal Basins. In basins, complex morphotypes of planktonic foraminifera change with the development of a K strategy in relation with a high marine level. In other domains, planktonic foraminifera are less abundant, possibly absent; other biotopes take place with rudist bioconstruction (bafflestone) or unbuilt biocoenose in relation with the coastal system progradation. Finally, comparisons with other parts of the world and a discussion about the effect of different parametres are proposed.
