From the beginning of the paper, in its title, Carmona et al. (2018) attribute some ichnofossils found in deposits of temporary interdune ponds to the questionable group “unioniforms”, “meaning either Unionoida or Unionoidea” (why then, not use the higher category?). Unfortunately, with the images provided in this paper, it is impossible to distinguish any taxon, even one of a high-rank category.

Additionally, it must be noted that unionoids do not live in temporary interdune ponds or any other temporary water body. There are not modern or fossil records to sustain Carmona et al. (2018)'s claim. The bivalves, in general,...
