By the time this Spotlight appears in Palaios, I will be 20 years past my graduate-school days at Indiana University. During this time, it has been a joy to see major advances in sedimentology, stratigraphy, and paleontology—advances that have broken down many of the walls that divide Earth scientists and, with the advent of enhanced geochemical and temporal acuity, have resulted in a far more holistic view of the complex interactions that occur at and near Earth's surface.
