Putting “geology” and “Nebraska” in the same phrase offers the ingredients of an oxymoron, or perhaps even a cruel joke, in the minds of many of my out-of-state colleagues. Thankfully, the authors of Roadside Geology of Nebraska have sought to disprove the notion that there is little, if anything, of geologic interest in the Cornhusker State (readers are introduced with a pithy John McPhee quote to that effect on the frontispiece).
