Sedimentary Basins—Evolution, Facies, and Sediment Budget, Second Edition, Gerhard Einsele, 2002, Springer-Verlag, New York, USA, 792 p. (Hard Cover, $93.00) ISBN: 3-540-66193-x.
The second edition of “Sedimentary Basins—Evolution, Facies, and Sediment Budget” by Gerhard Einsele is a well-designed textbook that addresses many of the traditional and emerging topics in sedimentary geology. The textbook is divided into five parts. The first section deals with types of sedimentary basins. The most useful part of this first section is the carefully constructed figures showing cross-sectional and plan-view diagrams of different basin types. Overall, I found this first section useful, but somewhat cursory.
