We welcome the comments of Johannes Krüger and Kurt Kjær on our paper published in JSR (Larsen and Piotrowski 2003), which reflect a growing interest in using till fabrics as a proxy for constraining subglacial processes. Our opponents disagree with us in three major points by claiming that (1) our conclusion regarding the lack of correlation between the clast a-axis length and fabric strength is unjustified, (2) the basal till in Kurzetnik is "not the most suitable example" to test the relationship between textural characteristics and fabric strength because of low fabric variability, and (3) our conclusions...
