Abstract

Dispersion of suspended matter was traced out into the lake using high frequency echo-sounding and in situ turbidity profiles. A layer of high turbidity was located over the thermocline (10-30 m depth). This layer could be traced by echosounding 7 km from the river mouth. The turbidity profiles enabled an initial reconstruction of the geometry of the turbid plume and the approximate concentration of entrained particles.--Modified journal abstract.
