This note reports on the discovery of modern aragonitic ooids in the Dead Sea. Unlike ooids from other hypersaline environments which have a radial fabric, the ooids of the Dead Sea consist of nuclei on which coatings of aragonite are concentrically oriented. The individual crystals within the laminae are equigranular aragonite with local thin laminae of randomly oriented aragonite needles.
