The Sonic Sifter and the Ro-Tap are compared as sediment particle sieve size analysis instruments. Various operational advantages and disadvantages inherent to each technique are considered. The Sonic Sifter is more portable, quieter and more versatile, whereas the Ro-Tap is more durable, more economical and precise. These observations supplemented by comparative statistical treatments indicate that the Ro-Tap is the more reliable and reproducible method for sediment sieve size analysis.
