Abstract
A review of the existing information on the eolian contribution to marine sediments is given. Studies of dust collected over the World Ocean and the distribution of minerals in marine sediments have produced the majority of the evidence indicating the importance of wind transport. Sediments of the World Ocean most affected by wind transport include those of the Central Atlantic, North and South Pacific and Southeastern Indian Oceans. The eolian contribution is primarily reflected in the distribution of illite, kaolinite and quartz in marine sediments.
