Abstract
The difference between the present dip of cross-beds, corrected for structural tilt, and the dip at the time of deposition provide a measure of sandstone compaction. Present cross-bedding dips in the Navajo sandstone by Kiersch suggest a most likely compaction of about 24 percent of the upper unit and about 27 percent of the lower unit.
