Beachrock from Ceylon is made up predominantly of carbonate cemented quartz grains, with ilmenite, magnetite, spinel, rutile, zircon, monazite, garnet, and sillimanite as minor constituents. Beachrock is found as shoals along retreating portions of the western coastline, and its formation is thought to be related to present or former strand lines.
