A number of cave deposits from Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico, have been found to contain secondary dolomite; that in one deposit, consists of a mixture of protodolomite and high-magnesium calcite. The dolomite apparently is pseudomorphic after and derived from aragonite at temperatures less than 20 degrees C and in contact with water with a high a Mg ++/a Ca ++ ratio.
