Abstract

X-ray radiography techniques applicable to rock slabs are described. Slab thickness, milliamperage, exposure time, kilovoltage, focus-film distance, film type, and film development are considered. The results of the experiments allow the following suggestions: (1) the choice of film will determine the milliamperage, exposure time, and distance: (2) slab thickness should be fixed at approximately 3 mm; and (3) only kilovoltage need be varied as specimen densities vary. Specific recommendations are given for the radiography of bentonites.
