Steeply dipping flank beds surrounding a Silurian reef in Indiana consist of dolarenite in their upper part and dolosiltite in their lower part. Textures of crinoidal layers indicate deposition by wave action and slumping but most layers have textures of turbidites. Turbidity currents may play a major roll in the genesis of flank beds of some reefs.
