Structures superficially resembling parting-plane lineation observed in some sandstone beds in Silurian flysch sequences of Peeblesshire in the Southern Uplands of Scotland are here described as intra-bed primary features whose formation was similar to that of groove molds on the soles of sandstone beds. Whereas parting lineation marks a brief fluctuation in the depositing current, the internal groove molds indicate a more complex depositional history involving either a single pulsatory depositional episode or multiple independent depositional events.
