Abstract

Wave and biochemical erosion of pebble- to boulder-sized calcareous concretions in arkosic sandstone has formed a marine pedestalate terrace on San Nicolas Island, Calif. Solution basins and weathered joints pit and score the terrace surface. A boulder beach of concretions removed from pedestal rocks has accumulated at one end of the terrace.
