Abstract

Significant differences exist between the heavy mineral suites of the red arkose facies of the Cutler Formation along the western edge of the granitic Uncompahgre uplift, and the light-colored, highly cross-bedded sandstone members of the Cutler Formation to the west and southwest. These differences suggest that the light colored sandstones were not derived from the same sediment that formed the arkose facies. A more northern source is postulated based on bedding structure orientations.
