Manitou Formation originated as an organic allochemical limestone in a low to moderate energy environment. Types of limestone include biomicrite, biomicrosparite, intramicrosparite, and micrite. Reversible replacement of calcite and silica, replacement of calcite by dolomite, replacement of dolomite by silica, dehydration of limonite to hematite, concentration of iron in dolomite, and replacement of glauconite by dolomite have occurred. Paragenetic sequence was as follows: Deposition of allochemical limestone; recrystallization of micrite to sparry calcite; dolomitization; silicification; calcitization; and oxidation of iron minerals.
