Noncalcareous subparallel seams in horizontal shell calcarenites of the Te Kuiti group in the Waitomo-Te Anga area, New Zealand, are shown to be post-depositional in origin. Formation was due to intrastratal solution in a manner similar to that responsible for formation of stylolites. A relationship between original porosity of the calcarenite and the development of seams is postulated.
