Abstract

Three formations, separated by unconformities, are recognized in the unfossiliferous Precambrian rocks of the Vindhyan system in the Rohtasgarh area. Results of a detailed study of thickness variation of the rock units and of sedimentary structures within the sequence, as well as analysis of the sandstone members, are reported. The data indicate that throughout the period of deposition during which the two lower sandstone bodies were formed paleocurrent directions and source areas of the sediment remained unchanged and that the shoreline migrated north-northeast.
