Abstract

A coring device for obtaining large, undisturbed underwater sediment samples is described and illustrated by detailed diagrams. It consists of an open-ended box, a plate, and components for driving the plate diagonally through the sample to abut against the lower edge of the box. A wedge-shaped sample is thus enclosed. Operation techniques and components are described for direct sampling (very shallow) and remote sampling (water 3-20 ft deep), and some results are discussed.
